Who we are
The Junior League of Montclair-Newark (JLMN), Inc. is a volunteer organization of women committed to Promoting Volunteerism, Developing the potential of women, and Improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The Junior League welcomes all women who value our Mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations and communities.What we do
The JLMN is a nonprofit organization of trained volunteers. Through hands-on projects and partnerships, our members build a better community by promoting education, health and wellness, literacy and the arts for children at risk each year.
Our service area
Our service area includes the Essex County communities of Bloomfield, the Caldwells, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Glen Ridge, Irvington, Montclair, Newark and Verona. Other communities within Essex County may be considered for JLMN involvement on a case-by-case basis and with Board approval.
Leadership
Through the JLMN's formal educational programs and hands-on training, we help develop our members into community leaders. Whether chairing a JLMN project or serving on a community board, JLMN members learn the skills to affect real change and improve our communities.
Training
The JLMN provides our members with both formal education programs and hands-on training experience. We also draw upon training provided by the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) and conduct joint training sessions with other Leagues.
The JLMN's Education & Training Committee conducts a variety of programs for our membership throughout the year. We draw upon members to teach each other and bring in outside expert trainers. Past programs have included: Conflict Resolution, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills, Social Media and Running Effective Meetings.
Beyond projects
Much of our work involves going into the community to provide hands-on assistance through our projects. However, there are also a variety of other opportunities within the JLMN. These include: Administration, Education & Training, Project Development, Finance and Public Relations.
Social
Many of our members join the JLMN to make connections. We always have a great time, whether doing volunteer work together or just socializing. Throughout the year, we have a variety of events that bring us together.
