SPAC

SPAC is the Junior Leagues of New Jersey State Public Affairs Committee which takes action on select state and national public issues

SPAC Delegates Meet at the Washington, DC Office of
Congressman Chris Smith to Discuss Human Trafficking

SPAC is a statewide, non-partisan committee made up of representatives from each of the eight Junior Leagues in New Jersey who join together to take action on select state and national public issues. Specifically, SPAC advocates for initiatives and legislation to improve the quality of life for women and children; improve the quality of education; and improve the environment.

With a combined membership of 3,000 women in New Jersey and with the use of a range of advocacy tools, SPAC is able to improve the lives of women and children in the state.

SPAC's Current Priories include:

  • Human Trafficking
  • Umbilical Cord Blood Donations
  • Domestic Violence
  • Childhood Obesity
  • Environmental / Green Initiatives

Legislative Accomplishments include:

  • Anti Human Trafficking Legislation / Awareness: SPAC Meets regularly with the NJ Statewide Human Trafficking Task Force
  • EpiPen Legislation
  • Child Safety Helmet Laws
  • Child Proof Hand Gun Legislation
  • Insurance Coverage for Mammograms, Pap Smears and 48 hr Maternity Hospital Stays
  • Juvenile Justice Legislation
  • Work on Early Childhood Development gave SPAC a seat on the Child Welfare Advisory Council
  • Appointed to the Governor's Advisory Council Against Sexual Violence

SPAC actively participates in the "Walk to Washington" - a special train ride organized by the NJ Chamber of Commerce which takes legislators, interest groups and businesses on a journey to Washington DC. It’s called the “Walk to Washington” because most people are walking up and down the train for the duration of the trip, talking to legislators about their concerns. It culminates with a Congressional Dinner in the evening. The train ride provides a great opportunity for SPAC members to talk to legislators about important issues, specifically issues concerning women, children and the environment. SPAC also takes advantage of being in Washington DC to meet with NJ Representatives.
