Art Project at Neighborhood Childcare Center

ARTS FOR ACADEMICS (AFA) was developed by the JLMN as a way to expose children at risk to the arts. AFA is an in-class arts initiative focused on the disciplines of music, drama, dance and representational art. Educators have shown that children exposed to the arts at an early age tend to perform better in their core subjects once they are school age.

This year the AFA teams is working with 3, 4 and 5 year olds at Neighborhood Childcare Center in Montclair and Family Day Nursery School in Bloomfield. Each month the AFA teams presents a 45 minute Tuesday morning art, music, dance or drama lesson to the same age class of children at both schools.
